I believe that cutting out the art and music classes is the worst thing the schools can do to these kids and their development.
The fine arts provide students with opportunities to synthesize and apply the concrete concepts taught in math, science, and language arts. In addition, students learn to recognize the value of differences, while learning to recognize the commonalities of humanity. In today's world, we need to teach that more than ever. Cutting arts out of schools is foolish and short-sighted. I believe we need to start integrating the arts, not eliminating them.
